Scholarship Program Guidelines

THESE ARE GENERAL, TIMELESS GUIDELINES FOR GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION. THIS IS NOT THE APPLICATION. 

PURPOSE

The purpose is to recognize Lake Central High School student athletes, whose parents are active Booster Club members, for their athletic abilities as well as their academic accomplishments.

AWARD

  1. At a minimum, four scholarships will be awarded to the graduates. The dollar amount has not yet been determined, but will minimally be $500.00
  2. The scholarship in its entirety will be dispersed to the student once a paid post-secondary receipt of at least the scholarship amount is submitted to the Booster Club. In the case of full-ride scholarships, allowances will be made for books or computers up to the scholarship amount.

ELIGIBILITY

  1. The student applicant must be a graduating senior.
  2. The student must be a varsity-rostered athlete.
  3. The student’s parent/guardian must be a member of the Booster Club; for the current school year (Membership must have been post-marked no later than the last day of school before Winter Break), must have attended at least three (3) Lake Central High School Athletic Booster Club meetings by May 1st , and logged at least one volunteer shift at a Booster Club event or a minimum of 3 hours of volunteer hours for the club.
  4. The student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or better as of the end of the first semester.
  5. The student must be in good standing in the Lake Central School Community.

GRADING CRITERIA

  1. The essays will be graded according to a rubric.
  2. A panel of judges will independently review and grade each blind essay.
  3. The independent grades will be totaled and the average of the scores will be assigned to each student’s essay.

ESSAY TOPIC

Will be determined and posted on the web page annually after Winter Break under “Scholarship Application” tab.

PAPER REQUIREMENTS

  1. Cover Sheet: One copy. This sheet should contain the student’s name, sport(s), parent(s) names and contact information.
  2. Essay: Must consist of the following:
    1. Typed, double spaced,
    2. 12 point font: Times New Roman
    3. 1” margins (top, bottom, and sides)
    4. Not longer than 2 pages in length.
    5. No identifying information should be in the essay itself.

Including identifying information will disqualify the essay.

  1. Make 6 (six) copies of the essay. Staple each copy (2 sheets). Paperclip the cover sheet to the stack of 6 (six) essays.
  2. Place the cover sheet and 6 (six) essay copies in a large sealed envelope. DO NOT FOLD.
  3. Mark the envelope “Athletic Booster Club Scholarship Essay.”

FAILURE TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS MAY DISQUALIFY THE ESSAY.

DUE DATE:  Usually the last day of school before Spring Break. Official date will be posted annually with the official prompt after Winter Break.

NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS

Award notification will be given to the Guidance Office and will be announced at the Senior Awards Banquet.  Once the award has been given, it is the responsibility of the student (not the parent) to complete the necessary paperwork to receive their scholarship.
